Any fun plans this weekend? We’re spending it at the farm and “camping” in the tiny house. Matt and Beau came over tonight and PJ grilled cheeseburgers on the grill. We sipped on wine as we took a walk around the farm and it might have just been the most peaceful, relaxing night in recent memory. The weather cooperated and allowed for a huge fire, complete with s’mores and more wine ;).
I love nights like these, where you can feel and see a change in the air; in this case, spring is creeping in. It felt like a good way to kick off the weekend.
Hope you have a lovely weekend, friends! xoxo
I feel like my entire adult life is coming crashing down on me.
Coffee, the drink PJ and I most look forward to every morning and every afternoon for that warm, comforting pick-me-up, comes with a catch, apparently.
According to a recent article on The Conversation, they say:
“While it feels energising, this little caffeine intervention is more a loan of the awake feeling, rather than a creation of any new energy.
This is because the caffeine won’t bind forever, and the adenosine that it blocks doesn’t go away. So eventually the caffeine breaks down, lets go of the receptors and all that adenosine that has been waiting and building up latches on and the drowsy feeling comes back – sometimes all at once.
So, the debt you owe the caffeine always eventually needs to be repaid, and the only real way to repay it is to sleep.”
Fascinating! You can read the entire article here.
Happy Friday dears!!
How was your week? It rained all day, which felt surprisingly comforting and cozy. Luckily we’re supposed to have good weather tomorrow, which, thank goodness, because we’re celebrating our oldest turning 8! I can’t believe we already have an 8 year old. When our children came to us, Allan had just turned 4, so it’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that he’s already almost TEN.
We’re having a little party for him in the pavilion at our farm, and then tomorrow night I think we’re going to take them all to see the new Mario movie. Should be a fun weekend.
We hope you have a lovely weekend, too, friends!!
PS: have you signed up for our weekend newsletter? One just went out tonight, so if you’re not signed up yet, click here and you’ll get one right in your inbox next Friday!

Last night, we celebrated my little sister’s 29th birthday at my brother’s house on the river.

How was your week? We had to go to South Georgia at the last minute for a few days for a personal reason that I’ll share next week, but it feels so good to be back home. We saw our family, which was so beautiful and wonderful and I cherished our nights with them, especially since all of my siblings were together, but I am exhausted and so grateful to be back in our home.
We went to the farm this morning and I took the above photo of the mountain and pasture. It’s all green again! I breathed in the cool, calm Tennessee air and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Our happy place. Our safe haven. Needing it more than ever.
We hope you have a lovely weekend, loves. xoxo

Read MoreHappy Friday lovers!! What are you up to this weekend? We’re in cleaning and organizing mode here at home. I want to take every piece of clothing in our closet and pack it up and donate it. We both just want to start over and drastically reduce our number of clothing items. Not only are we already lacking on closet space, we have virtually no sort of system set up whatsoever for organizing it.
The kids are going to a soccer game tomorrow with their aunt, so maybe we’ll do a little date night out in town. With temps in the 70’s this weekend, something outdoors would be fun, don’t you think?
Tonight is for the gym, a trip to the hardware store, and maybe then to Target before having leftover tacos for dinner.
Have a great weekend, y’all!!! xoxo
Like we do every year around this time, or try to at least, we did a little spring cleaning on the front porch this past weekend. It’s incredible (and gross) how much dirt and grime accumulates, and you don’t even really see it until you’re up close and personal in its face.
Our porch could use not only a good cleaning, but a repainting as well. It’s hard to believe we’ve already been here six years, and that was the last time it was painted. We’ve also toyed around with the idea of painting the front door AND the top of our house a different color. We’ll see.
With spring temperatures still feeling like a million years away (it was 26 degrees when we woke up this morning), spring allergies are in full affect here at the McKay house. I love this time of year, but absolutely despise the pollen we get in our area. It’s some of the worst in the country!
Nevertheless, it does feel so good to clean the house, both inside and outside, and once I get all the work finished that’s due this week (including wrapping up the big post about our California trip!), I intend to start cleaning and organizing every closet, corner and cranny of this old house.
I can’t wait.
Hello loves. What are you up to this weekend?
It’s been raining nonstop all day, which has made it incredibly difficult to want to accomplish anything worthwhile. The only thing we’ve wanted to do since this morning is stay in pajamas and lounge around the house all day.
In an appropriate turn of events, we made chili in the crock pot tonight, complete with PJ’s homemade cornbread. Both hit the spot, and now we’re all relaxing in the living room watching the kids play video games. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night than this right here.
Meanwhile, be on the lookout next week for California Week!!! We’ll be sharing all about our trip out west, including where we stayed, what we ate and all that we did. We’re all so glad to be home, but we’re still California dreaming here down south.
Have a cozy weekend, friends!!
