Hey you,

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and musings of our family’s life in a small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

A Sweet Birthday Party at Home

A Sweet Birthday Party at Home

While we celebrated Allan’s 9th birthday on his actual birthday with just us, today we had a bigger party for him at home with family.

We normally do big parties at the farm and invite a bunch of friends and family, but starting with Anna’s birthday back in January, we’ve decided to reserve those big get togethers for milestone birthdays like 13 and 16, and instead do smaller, more intimate parties for everything else. Which is exactly what we did today.

PJ made a homemade sweet, whipped cream dipping sauce for our fruit bowl and it was SO GOOD. Trying to decide how we can keep using it for something else (maybe a pastry?) because it’s delicious and we have so much left over.

We’re learning that big parties with all the fixings are a ton of fun, but at the end of the day, the kids really just want the people they love most in the world there. Life: sometimes it really is that simple.

Since my mom couldn’t be here because of her hip, Beau had the incredibly sweet idea to FaceTime her as we all sang happy birthday. What would we do without friends like these?!

After everyone left, we chatted with Matt and Beau for a bit in the front room. We were all zonked. Too much pizza, cake, and soda, and what’s worse is we were all up so late the night before eating dinner and playing catch up after not seeing each other for a few weeks. We were all running on little sleep, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t all worth it.

After a few short naps, I took the kids on bike rides around the neighborhood since the weather was absolutely perfect. It was one of those spring days you look forward to all year and never want to end.

And now we’re all getting in bed early to start the week off right. My only delete for the day? How damn tired we both were today. No amount of coffee or Red Bull or sugar in the cake could help us out of the foggy haze that comes with a lack of sleep. Remember that, folks! Get your eight hours in!
