We Bought a Cute, Tiny, Yellow Cottage
Remember a few weeks ago when we mentioned how an exciting new project was in the works? Well on Monday we revealed that we bought a little cottage here in town and have some pretty big plans for it…
We’re going to renovate it and turn it into a short term rental (a la VRBO or AIRBNB) for folks from out of town to come and stay at! This will be our first venture into that type of business, as usually we renovate and do long term rentals before eventually selling a house. Y’all. We’re so excited to get started and for you to come stay here once we’re finished!
What’s so fun about this whole thing is that it’s actually a woodshed built by the previous owner who lived in the main house on the property with his wife. PJ remembers it being built 10+ years ago and has always loved it, admiring it from the road several times and wondering what it looked like on the inside. So when we found out the little wood shop (and the main house) was for sale, we made them an offer and after some negotiating, they accepted!
We’ve been asking you for some ideas on what we should name the cottage and y’all have not disappointed. Many of you have given names that reference the yellow color that the cottage currently is, but sadly we’re not keeping it yellow. The biggest reason is that the main house is the exact same color and we really want to separate it from the main house since they’re no longer connected. Also, it’s a little too dollhouse-cutesy, and we want it to have a totally different feel once we’re finished with it.
The main living area as seen from just right of the front door:
From the opposite angle standing at the back door (the stairs lead to the upstairs loft):
This is the room (that was an addition after the cottage was originally built) to the left of the front door. It’s a skinny, long-ish room that we plan to turn into the master bedroom and a bathroom:
Upstairs you have these four cute windows in the shed dormer that look out onto the backyard, along with a tiny half bath (that needs to be re-worked into a full bath) and vaulted ceilings:
So there you have it! We can’t wait to get started on this project. We love small, tiny, cozy homes and we think this will be the most fun design project we’ve ever worked on. Stay tuned!
