The Number One Reason I Won't Watch Game of Thrones

No spoilers here, just honest opinions.

Let’s start by saying I know I’m in the minority here. Game of Thrones is currently the most popular show in the world, and every episode of this season seems to be bigger than the last. It keeps breaking record after record, winning tons of awards, and is captivating audiences from coast to coast. And I get why! It’s wildly entertaining, it’s raunchy, it’s daring and controversial, and there are dragons. Who wouldn’t love all of that?

I also want to be clear, that PJ loves this show. He’s seen every episode of every season and can’t seem to get enough. I, on the other hand, have only seen a few episodes here and there, and have read many a Buzzfeed article about the show, spoilers and all. But the main reason I don’t watch GOT, or won’t watch it, is actually pretty simple, and may even be why some people like it so much in the first place.

Too. Many. People. Die. This isn’t a spoiler, because even if you haven’t seen the show, even if you’ve just heard of it, you know that people drop like flies left and right, and that’s just how it is. It doesn’t matter if they’re one of the main characters, if they’ve been on the series since the beginning, or if they’re a major actor. The writers have no remorse!!! And I can’t deal with that. I won’t. I get too attached to characters way too easily and even the ones that I don’t really know (which is all of them since I don’t watch it regularly), my heart breaks for them when it’s their time to die.

As I am writing this, one of the characters (who, PJ informed me, has been on the show for a while) just got their head chopped off. My heart was pounding the entire scene because I knew what was coming. DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN? I don’t get how folks do it week after week. More power to y’all, though. You’re stronger than I am!

Do you watch Game of Thrones? How do you do it? Does the constant killing of important (and non important) characters get to you, too?
