Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

Happy Fall, Y’all

Happy Fall, Y’all

Today is the first official day of fall, and even though it’s in the 90’s, nothing gets us more excited than the prospect of a new season, and especially when that season is fall.

We stopped by a local farmer’s market yesterday morning and picked up some decorations for our front porch. If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know we like to decorate for specific seasons somewhat abnormally early in an effort to enjoy them for as long as possible. For example, we started decorating for fall yesterday, we‘ll start decorating for Halloween in a few weeks, and then THE DAY after Halloween, we’ll most likely start decorating for Christmas (something that some of y’all have strong opinions about 😂).

(just realizing the pumpkin’s stem looks like it’s going up PJ’s nose, haha)

We’ve been checking the weather religiously the last few days, seeing when the heat will let up in the coming weeks. We’ve had a taste of fall the last few mornings with temperatures being in the low 60’s when we wake up, and we’ve been having our coffee on the back deck and it’s completely changed the feel of our mornings. Isn’t it crazy how big of an affect weather has on your mood?

Are you one of those people who desperately waits for fall every year so you can enjoy heaven on earth things like chunky sweaters and chilly weather and SOUPS and flannels and baked goodies and cozy candles and spooky movies and pumpkin everything? Technically you could enjoy those things year round, but they wouldn’t feel right (or nearly as special) in any other season, would they?

Growing up, PJ always thought that summer was his favorite season. He loves going to the beach at least once a year (he grew up going to St. Augustine, FL with his family) and he’s been somewhat planning a small beach vacation getaway for us next month for our anniversary. The last few years, though, he’s come around to the idea that fall is the most dreamy season there is, especially here in Southeast Tennessee, and he’s officially declared autumn as his favorite season. Welcome to the club, PJ! Also, saying the word autumn instead of fall makes it sound more magical, doesn’t it?

When do you start decorating for fall? Do you decorate at all? Our town completely transforms this time of year and becomes 1000 times more charming. Everything feels alive and the colors are vibrant and the air is clear and there’s energy moving through the streets and the steps that people take and it all just feels so dreamy. Of course, all of that won’t be for a few more weeks because it’s going to be averaging 90 degrees here for the foreseeable future, but it will come when it’s time.

Speaking of fall, we filmed the decorating of our front porch yesterday and you can check it out in our newest YouTube video here! We kept it simple and it only took about 20 mins, but we’ve smiled every time we’ve walked through our front door since putting everything up. It’s the little things, isn’t it?

We hope you are having a wonderful Monday and first day of fall. Here’s to a new season and all the possibilities it brings!
