The First Day of Kindergarten!

Today is the day! Our oldest kiddo started virtual kindergarten from the dining room this morning on his iPad. He met his teacher and all of his classmates on a Zoom-like meeting and they danced, read a book, & each told a little about themselves. The teacher went around the room and asked everyone what they liked to do, and when it came time for older brother to answer, he said he liked to “watch TV” 🙄😂.

We were trying to think of the best place for him to set up shop to do his schooling every day. At first we considered upstairs in our landing/office area, since that’s where our desk is. Then we thought about the desk that’s in his room, thinking he would be more comfortable in there, plus there’s a big window that he could look out. But then we thought about having to go upstairs every time he has a question, needs help, etc. and we quickly reevaluated.

For now (and probably going forward) he is working at the opposite end from where we normally eat at the dining room table. We’re using the buffet to store his school supplies and papers, and since the dining room connects to the kitchen, where we spend 80% of our day, we’ll be close by throughout the school day to help and guide him.

PJ’s been working with him all summer and it’s going to be fun and exciting to see him put to use what he’s learned this year. He excelled in his diagnostic testing in math, so he’s no longer considered developmentally delayed! He’s all caught up and we couldn’t be more proud of him. As always, we wish we could let you meet him. He’s the sweetest 5 year old ever, and we know he’s going to have the best school year ever (all things considered).

Overall it was a successful first day. Looking forward to the rest of the week/month/year!
