Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Amsterdam Daydreaming

Amsterdam Daydreaming

Missing my favorite city with my favorite person today.

Fall always makes me feel nostalgic for Amsterdam (is there a prettier city this time of year?). We went to AMS for the first time only 2 years ago and fell in love with it (we have been a total of 3 times in the last 2 years thanks to KLM). The trees, the people, the windy streets, the old, leaning buildings, the history, the food, the canals. All of it is just so dreamy.

When we’re there, it feels like we’re in a movie: people riding their cute bikes in their cute clothes down cute crooked streets past cute cafes on the cute canals. It’s all just so damn cute and makes me long for that city. There’s just something about it in the fall that’s magical.

On our first trip there we stayed at our favorite hotel of all time: The Hotel Pulitzer. Even though we’ve only stayed there once, we visit it every time we go back because we love it so much. It’s the most beautiful hotel we’ve ever stayed at, and not just because we love the way it looks, but also because of the food and the service and the view of the canal from our room and the smells. They have Le Labo hand soaps and lotions in the rooms and bathrooms and we took some home with us when we left and, whenever I’m feeling nostalgic for Amsterdam (like today), I use the littlest drop ever so sparingly to instantly take me back there. Isn’t it crazy how smells can do that?

I can’t wait to return one day, and maybe next time we’ll get to bring the kiddos. I would love to see their reactions to being in a new country!! The 11 hour plane ride, on the other hand, would be very interesting.

To tide us over until we can go back, one of our amazing subscribers (thank you Reed!) sent us some delicious Dutch coffee and two cute little mugs with pictures of Amsterdam streets (that he took himself) on them, and we can’t wait to use both once it gets a little cooler out (I want it to feel as close to being there as possible 😂). Isn’t that so sweet? It made my heart feel so full when I opened it and read his letter, and made AMS feel a little closer to home.

Oh well. We’ll always have the pictures and the memories, and the hopes of getting to travel again soon. Happy Friday, loves!!!
