Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

New Projects and the Excitement Surrounding Them

PJ looked at me the other day and said he wanted a new project.

At first I was confused because we aren’t even finished with the reno house in town and aren’t even close to finishing Holiday House, so it’s not like we’re short on things to do around here. In fact, it seems like we’re stretched so thin as it is, I honestly don’t know how we would even have time for a new project.

But then we talked about it more and he reminded me the reno house is almost complete (2-3 more weeks, if that) and that Holiday House is not a race to finish, but more of a journey that we’re in no hurry to complete just yet. We want to take our time with it and make sure we’re making the right choices because it’s a complete gut job and we have to add an entire laundry room and bathroom (plus so much more!), so there’s a lot to consider.

So then that brought us to this new project that PJ has been itching for. The thing about him is that he loves to be busy and to work hard to complete a goal. When he’s renovating a house is when he feels the most productive, happy, and accomplished. His passion and work ethic is one of my favorite things about him and even after all these years I still marvel at how hard he can work. Like, really and truly hard. The man pushed himself so much but he gets so much fulfillment out of it when he does that it’s hard to argue it.

Which brings us to now, yesterday, when we went to look at a property that may just be his new project. He went to look at it earlier this week with Allan and Riah and absolutely loved it: coming home and telling me how magical it was and how much potential it has. I was skeptical because, again, do we need another project? How will we have the time? But after we all drove out there and toured it, walking through the woods and exploring the grounds (there’s a creek!) and the little house, I was on board. It really is a magical property and the possibilities are exponential.

Matt (pictured above), Beau, Allan and Anna all came to look at the property with us and we all walked around to get a feel for it and it feels so secluded and, I’m using that word again: magical. It’s tucked away in the woods with privacy and beautiful trees surrounding it. We hiked up the large hill behind the house and I quickly ran out of breath, but it felt good to breathe the cool fall air and see all the pretty leaves.

PJ already has plans for the house and now I’m getting excited about what we may do with it. Were we in the market for a new project necessarily? No. Was one of our words for 2021 “simplify”? Yes. Did we do that? Well…to a certain extent we did. But I’m deciding right here and now that we will never declare “words of the year” again, because I know us and I know we will most likely always be looking for a new project. That’s just who my husband is and, when I really stop and think about it, I wouldn’t have it (or him) any other way.

Here’s to new projects and all the excitement (and possibilities) surrounding them!!
