The Most Popular Baby Names of the Year

The Most Popular Baby Names of the Year

It’s that time of the year again!

I’m a sucker for lists, countdowns, rankings, etc. And I’m also a sucker for babies, so it makes sense that I so look forward to the revealing of the most popular baby names ever year. And this year, for the first time in over a decade, there’s a new girl’s name taking the top spot (sorry, Sophia)!!

BabyCenter just revealed their annual list of the most popular baby names of the year, a list I find endlessly interesting for a number of reasons. For example, as Buzzfeed points out: “2021 saw parents view names in a more gender neutral way: Tatum, Finley, and Eden were all up for boys, while Stevie, Lennon, Remington, and Logan climbed the girls' list.” Cool, right?

The number one boy name has been the same for the third year in a row, but there are two new additions to the top ten this year: Levi and Asher. I think it’s so neat how names (of all things!) are trendy and go in and out of “style” so to speak. Riah has a friend in his class named Khaleesi, which I find so fun.

Here are the most popular girl names of the year (with a new number one!):

1. Olivia
2. Emma
3. Amelia
4. Ava
5. Sophia
6. Charlotte
7. Isabella
8. Mia
9. Luna
10. Harper

And here are the most popular boy names:

1. Liam
2. Noah
3. Oliver
4. Elijah
5. Lucas
6. Levi
7. Mason
8. Asher
9. James
10. Ethan

There you have it!! I may be biased, but I think Allan, Riah, and Anna are pretty great names, too :).
