A New Chapter and Season of Life for Us

Today’s the day.

Today marks the start of a season of life that will completely change everything for us, in a way. We’ve been looking forward to (and excited about) today for over a year.

It’s the first day of school!!! Our middle kiddo starts today and our oldest starts tomorrow. It feels so weird to type that because it feels like a strange resemblance of normalcy is creeping back into our lives (even as the COVID count sadly keeps climbing). This will be the first time all three kids will be in school at the same time, in person. The question I keep asking myself is, what are we going to do with all the new free time?

But then I quickly remember the free time is an illusion and it will really be us working without as many distractions during the day. It’s a bittersweet feeling, though. It’s been the five of us every day for almost two years, so the thought of them not being with us during the day is somewhat sad. I know we’ll miss them, at least at first, and then the routine will set in and them leaving for the first half of the day will be like clockwork in this new season of life.

So who is going where? Our oldest will be in 1st grade (CRAZY), our middle will be in Pre-K, and sis will be in a daycare-type program. Three kids. Two different schools. One big change for our family. And that’s another thing I’ve been thinking about lately: Change. Specifically, how quickly it happens when they’re at these ages. And not just the physical changes! It seems like every day little sis is saying a new word that she wouldn’t have attempted before, or our oldest will say some random saying and I’m almost always baffled, like where did you hear THAT? You always hear people say to make the most of the younger years and now that we’re living through them, I understand why. They truly do go so fast.

I love it, though. I think we’re both excited to have the chance to miss them and to hear all about their day when they get home, a conversation we rarely get to have with them since we’re together all day every day. I want to hear about what they drew during craft time, see what they made with scissors and markers, talk about their new friends and teachers. And maybe I’m getting ahead of myself because they’re all in such younger grades (I doubt three year old little sis will be telling me about all the friends in her class, but maybe??), but you get what I’m talking about. I’m just excited for it all.

It’s 6:30a and the house is asleep while I drink my coffee and the birds sing outside in the dark, preparing for the sun to rise in a bit. It’s going to be a cooler morning (thankfully), which will be most welcome since we’re walking little brother to school.

In other news, the blog got a teeny tiny little update! You can see we have a new logo that no longer has our names in it (going back to our roots with The Property Lovers!), a change we may be moving towards across everything in the future. More on that to come.

Wish us luck on this new chapter! It’s going to be an interesting year.
