A Hocus Pocus 2 Watch Party
I, like the rest of us 90’s kids, have waited over 20 years for this sequel, and what better way to finally watch it than with a Hocus Pocus 2 party at a friends house?
My best friend from high school moved back to our hometown a few months ago with her husband and two girls, and she invited us over to her new house for a watch party. Our kids adore her children and they always have so much fun together, so we were looking forward to it all week. Sadly, PJ didn’t feel too well once the night came, so he stayed back on the couch while I took the kids over.
She had everything set up for the perfect fall night: homemade hot chocolate and apple sider, a popcorn station with candy toppings, cupcakes, and pizza. We brought cookies and ice cream and some warm sweaters to wrap up in.
Before we watched the movie, which was projected on the side of the house while we all sat in the driveway bundled up in blankets, the kids all decorated Halloween cookies and did cartwheels down her hill. I can’t tell you how happy I feel when I see our kids interact and play with other kids.
I know we’re three years in, but I still have memories from 2020 where we didn’t see anyone other than our family. Our kids, like everyone else, really lost valuable and important socialization time with other kids their age when we social distanced for a year and half. It was necessary of course, but I still get the biggest smile on my face when I see Anna laugh with other little girls or Allan show another little kid how to do a handstand. What an unexpected joy of parenthood.
By the end of the night, Riah was asleep in my lap underneath a blanket and we were all wiped out from playing and eating too much candy. It was also freezing by that point, so once the movie was over, we all piled in the car and turned the heat on high, which, in turn, I also felt so much joy about. I love cold weather and bundling up in layers and feeling that safe and warm feeling that only this time of year brings. You know what I mean?
As for the movie itself, I won’t spoil anything for you if you haven’t seen it, but I will say, it was very charming, cute, and had just the right amount of nostalgia you would hope a sequel to such an iconic movie would have.
