A Fun Fall Activity: Painting Pumpkins
There are so many things to love about fall: The colors of the leaves, the fashion, and of course, fall activities like curling up on the couch to watch a cozy movie or, as was the case the other night, painting pumpkins!
The other day, my friend Mallory texted me saying we should hang out Friday night. When I asked what we should do, she responded with, “Let’s do something Halloween themed.” To which I said, “Okay like paint pumpkins or something.”
I can’t believe we haven’t done this before, or if we have, it must have been a long time ago because I don’t remember it. I bought the pumpkins for our kids and her two, and she brought the paint (just simple craft paint from Walmart) and paintbrushes. We had the kids put on clothes that they could get messy and we all set up shop in the dining room.
PJ laid out a roll of wrapping paper so the table wouldn’t get paint on it (genius), and we just poured the paint right on the paper. They dipped their paint brushes in little jars of water to clean them.
Mallory’s oldest daughter, Zoey, painted Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. How cute (and good!) is that?
We didn’t give the kids any creative direction and let them paint whatever they felt inspired to paint. I love the big eyes on Allan’s:
It was such a fun little activity for the evening and kept the kids entertained for quite a while, and they were all so proud of their finished pumpkins. So sweet. And now they live on our front porch to greet us and everyone who comes into our house throughout the month of October:
Maybe next year I will work up the energy to actually carve the pumpkins.
