Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Our Red White & Royal Blue Halloween Costumes

Our Red White & Royal Blue Halloween Costumes

When we were trying to decide what we were going to be for Halloween this year, the idea came to us almost instantly and we never strayed from it.

After watching the movie and reading the book, we fell in love with Red, White & Royal Blue and the love story between Alex and Henry. It’s romantic. It’s beautiful. It’s cute. It’s a modern day fairytale. What’s not to love (seriously if you haven’t seen the movie yet, what are you waiting for!)? So we decided I would go as Alex, since he has darker hair, and PJ would go as Henry. We recreated the movie poster in this photo, but the biggest thing we missed? Their socks!! Womp, womp.

Our costumes came together with a mix of things we already had and some items we had to purchase. Our costumes were inspired by the clothes they were wearing in the first scene of the movie, the one where they’re at the wedding and (spoiler alert) the biggest cake you’ve ever seen falls on them. What a an opener of a movie! Here’s a photo for reference:

So here’s how we became the men from Red, White & Royal Blue:

Henry costume:

  • PJ used his tuxedo and shoes he already had from my brother’s wedding two years ago

  • He ordered a white vest and bowtie set for $30 off Amazon

  • He used a wig that was actually sent to us 4 years ago by HBO for the second season promo of Big Little Lies. It was Meryl Streep’s character’s wig!

  • He ordered this graduation sash

  • The necklace was made from a vampire chain necklace from Spirit Halloween that he took apart and sewed onto some red ribbon he got from Walmart

  • The brooch came from here for $12

Alex costume:

There you have it! We had a ton of fun dressing up and taking these photos and even doing a little dance inspired by the film. Hopefully a new gay romcom will come out soon and we can be that for Halloween next year!
