Do You Ever Take Your Wedding Ring Off?
In honor of Valentine’s Day, let’s talk about something love-related.
Our son was holding my hand the other day and asked if I ever take my ring off. I answered him by saying that, well, I can’t.
As in, I physically can’t. My fingers have gotten bigger in the last few years and my ring doesn’t come off as easily as it used to; I would really have to try hard to slide it off by using some kind of oil or butter or something. It’s difficult and isn’t worth the trouble, so I don’t even bother trying to take it off. Not that I ever took it off before, however.
I am one of those people who never takes their ring off. Not at the gym, not in the shower, not when I’m working, not when I’m sleeping. I’m not exactly sure why, I just never have. And I think because it’s so out of sight out of mind, I never think about it and it doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing anything. My palm has calloused over from where my ring rubs against it, especially after the gym, so (luckily) it’s not uncomfortable anymore.
Our friends take their rings off when they’re working out and I think even when they sleep. PJ takes his ring off from time to time because he accidentally cut his fingers off when he was 13 and as a result, his knuckles are swollen on his left hand, which makes his ring almost like a bangle, so it gets uncomfortable sometimes. And of course, any kind of diamond or rock on the band would warrant a reason to take it off, as it seems like it would really get in the way of everyday tasks.
But what about you? I would love to know: Do you take your wedding ring off or do you always leave it on? I am always so afraid I would lose it if I took it off!!
