We Just Got the Sweetest Package in the Mail
The other day we received a text from our best friends that said, “There’s a package that should be arriving to your house today! BOLO” I responded to Matt and Beau with a “Omg what!!!”.
Sure enough, an hour later the doorbell rang and a rectangle box was left in front of the door. Neither of us had a clue what it could be, but we knew it was going to be something super thoughtful. Both Matt & Beau are extremely creative with their gifts and they almost have a throw-back-to-the-days-before-texting-and-internet way of thoughtfulness to them. They send hand-written thank you notes in the mail. If they see something and it reminds them of you, they’ll send it to you ASAP.
In short: They’re incredibly damn thoughtful and I am making it my mission to be more like them in that area. I’ve said it before, but I can’t think of anything more thoughtful than taking the time to send someone something in the mail. In the age of fast texts and internet communication, people going through the trouble of dealing with mail to send correspondence reminds me of how grateful I am for friends, especially the good ones.
Anyway, the package was a King Cake!
We were talking to them about King Cakes last year and how I haven’t had one since I was little, but loved the whole idea of them (the icing, the bread, the colorful sprinkles!) and wanted to try one again soon. Obviously, since Matt and Beau are from New Orleans, they grew up eating King Cake every Mardi Gras and know a lot more about them than I do, so I was happy when a “history of Mardi Gras King Cakes” paper was included with the cake. It’s all so fascinating!
And I know you’re wondering: The king cake is absolutely delicious. It’s filled with cream cheese, which makes it about 1000 times more difficult to stop eating it once you start. It’s sweet, rich, creamy, sweet, and so moist. I can’t imagine why people only eat it a few months out of the year; I think it just might be my new favorite dessert.
If you want the same one M&B sent us, they got it from here.
