The Tile in the Guest Bath at Holiday House

We went out to the farm yesterday to feed the animals and to check on the bathrooms at Holiday House, and I snapped the above picture of the progress in the guest bath because WOW.

The tile is in and we love it!! It’s not finished, but I can already picture what it’s going to look like. We’ve never done marble tile in a bathroom before so I’m excited to see how this one turns out! I’ll share a full post about all the tile once it’s finished and fully installed, including the exact tile we used and why, but for now, I am loving the progress that is happening over there. I'm also loving the different patterns of the tile we went with:

  • Stacked for the walls of the shower

  • Brick for the shower floor

  • Herringbone for the bathroom floor

I think all three of them together add dimension to the room, which is needed because all the floor tile we’re using is marble, so it breaks it up and keeps things just different enough to stay interesting. The herringbone pattern is also a first for us, and I think it’s so sophisticated and beautiful.

Randy, our tile guy, is awesome. We’ve used him on two other houses we’ve done, including our own house. His work is great and he is super dependable, both of which are rare these days in home renovating.

He worked yesterday until he ran out of tile. The herringbone was trickier to install and he had to make a lot of cuts in order to get it in, which meant a lot more waste than we were all anticipating. We spent the entire weekend traveling to four different Lowe’s to collect all the tile we needed, and I’m happy to report we got it all! So now hopefully he can finish all the bathrooms this week, or at least make a big dent in them.

We’re ready to see this thing finished!
