Us, From 7 Years Ago

As I was going through one of our memory cards for our camera, I came across these photos we took in the summer of 2016. How were these taken 7 years ago? That feels impossible to me, but at the same time, the guys in these photos clearly show that time has passed, indeed.

I love how, even though they were taken in 2016, they look like they could have been taken in 2006. Especially with the flash in the one above!! So funny.

When these were taken, Allan, our oldest, was barely one and our other son and daughter weren’t even born yet. Life was so different back then before social media became our full time job and before we started traveling. It felt smaller, like it was just ours. This was just a few months before we started filming our pilot for HGTV.

While I loved that time in our lives (newlyweds, fixing up our first house together), I can’t imagine life not being the way it is now with our family and projects and the farm. There was a simplicity and a beauty to our life back then, but life now just feels full and bountiful, and every day feels like a new adventure of some kind. I love it, and wouldn’t trade what we have right now for anything.

And last but not least, thank goodness we’ve gotten better at taking photos since then.
