Father's Day 2023
Yesterday we celebrated Father’s Day with our family at PJ’s aunt’s house. It was that perfect kind of do-nothing-but-relax kind of day that only comes around a few times a year. Remember how we celebrated last year?
The kids swam nonstop for seven hours, which greatly reminded me of how I used to be when I was little, and from the stories I’ve heard, how PJ was, too. Our kids could have swam all night if we let them, and not only do they love it, they’re really good at it, too. They’ve all always been so fearless when it comes to the water.
PJ’s Uncle Jerry has this incredibly inspiring garden in the field next to their house, and he took us on a little tour of it. He grows cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, squash, corn, and probably something else that I’m forgetting. The whole time we were walking through, I could almost hear what PJ was thinking: “I want something like this at the farm.”
And guess what? I was thinking it, too.
We got in some quality relaxation time in and out of the pool. PJ lounged on this float and I played with the kids for a bit in between reading my book. I will never take days like this for granted.
My mom came over, too. Lori (PJ’s mom) and mine get along like sisters, as evident by this selfie my mom insisted they take:
Aunt Lisa made homemade ice cream, which tasted exactly like a Wendy’s frosty. I could have had seven of them, but settled for the rest of Anna’s instead.
We were there until it was time to go home and get the kids in bed and ready for school in the morning. I know I probably sound like a broken record on this blog, but I honestly can’t imagine living anywhere far from family. These people are the reason we’re here and able to do what we do and live a happy life. That’s a simplified version, of course, but it’s the all around truth. I don’t know where we would be individually and as a couple without our family’s support.
I hope you had a good Father’s Day, too xoxo.
