Do You Ever Take Naps?

Yesterday we found ourselves home alone in the middle of the day, per usual during the week, so we decided to do something we haven’t done in years. We took our shirts off, got comfortable, climbed into bed, and…

Took a nap. A NAP. I have been trying to think of the last time we did that and I honestly think it was in college when we would be exhausted from staying up late in PJ’s room and waking up early to make it to class on time. Basically, it’s been a very long time since we both took a nap in the middle of the day (PJ sometimes takes them if he doesn’t get enough sleep AKA at least 8-10 hours a night; I can more or less function on 6).

But we had gotten most of our work done right after lunch, we just had a few more things to edit on a couple of upcoming partnerships, which we knew we would finish after our hour long nap, so we just went for it. “Why not?” was kind of our mentality (isn’t that one of the perks of working from home?). The kids were at school and had to be picked up in two hours, the house wasn’t clean and there were dishes that had to be washed and mountains of clothes that needed to be folded, so there were definitely other things we could have been doing instead of taking a nap in the middle of the day, but I think because this happens so infrequently (as in, once every decade or so), we could get away with it just this once.

Is this what spontaneity looks like in your 30’s?

Also, it’s not lost on me that just two days ago I wrote a post about being productive and about how much we’ve gotten accomplished in the last week, and now I am writing about taking naps during the day. A little ying and a little yang, if you will. We’re all about balance on this blog.

And my final word on the subject, there’s something kind of nostalgic and, dare I say romantic? about taking a nap together with your partner like you used to do way back before you had so many responsibilities. It felt good to lay next to my guy for an hour before the outside world came rushing back to us.

What about you? Do you ever take naps in the middle of the day to recharge? When was the last time you said “Forget it”, put everything aside, and just listened to your body telling you it needs to rest?
