Design Inspiration: The Apartment in the Movie Enchanted
/Do you have certain movies you only watch for the dreamy interiors? That’s most movies for me, but the other day I remembered how I always loved the apartment in Enchanted, the 2007 Disney movie with Amy Adams.
Have you seen it lately? Even though it came out 17 years ago (!), it actually holds up as a movie.
But Patrick Dempsey’s apartment is the real draw for me. It’s the perfect mix of designed and decorated and cozy and lived-in, which is my favorite look ever. It feels warm, inviting, and like an apartment where you could just relax and settle in.
Apparently it was also shot inside a real apartment! The address is 440 Riverside Drive #111 in New York City, and it last sold in 2008 I think, though I couldn’t find any listing photos. Most movies are shot on a sound stage, so I was surprised to find out it was an actual apartment, if that was truly the case.
What I love most is the size of the rooms and the paint colors used throughout. They’re all warm, earthy colors that instantly make the place feel cozy. While the movie came out in 2007, these interiors don’t feel dated to me, and as I was watching it, they all still looked very in-style (if your style is traditional, that is).
I mean, how cute is the yellow kitchen with the green cabinets and butcher block countertops (even with all the clutter)? The yellow and green color combination has always been magical and felt a bit whimsical to me.
The whole apartment feels sophisticated but like a real family lives there. I love all the old, pre-war details like the French doors, high baseboards, and tall ceilings.
His bedroom feels moody and masculine, and I love the coffee-colored walls.
The room I am most in love with is the dining room. I am obsessed with that rust orangey-brown paint color on the walls mixed with the dark stained wood. How cozy is this room at night with all the lamps on? The perfect moody atmosphere for family dinners
Where can I use this color in our house?!
I love the portholes in the doors leading to the kitchen. Little details like these are what make old homes so special.
This is such a joyful movie to revisit, one the entire family can enjoy over a big bowl of popcorn on the couch. Highly recommend giving this one a watch, even if it’s only to swoon over the apartment!
