The Vest
Remember the little shopping date I took with my mom last week? And how, when we went to the store to look at the white Ralph Lauren vest I had been eyeing all week, I ultimately decided not to buy it because it was way more than I wanted to spend on a piece of secondhand clothing?
Well, my mom called me and told me to come outside to her car because she had something for me, and when I got out there, she handed me a bag, and in the bag was…
THE VEST.
Immediately, I became emotional. “MOM!!!” I said. “I can’t accept this, it’s way too much.” She replied with, “Honey, I think you need to get your eyes checked. It wasn’t $85, it was $10.”
What?! I swear when I read the tag last week it said $85. I checked like three times because I wanted it so badly, and all three times it said, “$85, compare at $225”. But when I checked the tag of the vest she handed me, sure enough, it said $10. She told me it was an early birthday present, but my birthday isn’t for another two months. I just think she wanted to do something thoughtful for me, as she often does.
I feel like I will never be able to show her the love she shows me. What did I do to deserve a mom like her?
In other news, I received a text first thing this morning from my friend who said she was hit by a drunk driver last night, and that the driver got out of his car and started running away from the scene on foot. She’s okay, and her car isn’t totaled, but she couldn’t believe it happened right after we finished talking last night.
I can’t help but think something is already up with 2024. First we had a health scare with a family member on my side, then an accident with a family member on PJ’s side, and now my friend was hit by a drunk driver last night. It feels like bad omens are all around us and they’re all happening at once. It kind of shakes me up a bit.
Stay safe out there, y’all. xoxo
