A Family Day on the River
On a cold, sunny day like today, I can’t for the life of me think of a better way to spend it than with family. We made the long drive out to PJ’s mammaw’s house on the river where we usually visit for birthdays and the week before Thanksgiving. It’s always so peaceful and relaxing out there, and the house and patio area are just steps from the water.
We were there celebrating PJ’s second cousin’s birthday, so we spent the day catching up and eating and watching the kids run around in the yard outside. When we got there, PJ’s mammaw surprised them with hot chocolate and coloring books, and when we were about to leave, she gave them each a stuffed bunny from the Easter Bunny that visited her house early.
They always sleep so well after visiting their great grandma’s house, and I suppose that is what great grandmas are for: showering them with food and love and providing a space for them to have as much fun as they can.
PJ’s grandma has hundreds of family photos all over her house, and I’ve always loved this photo of PJ from high school:
A dreamboat, right?
Meanwhile, Riah was having the time of his life running around outside with the kids, but I think he may have played a little too hard, because after a while, he was on the couch feeling puny. He hasn’t had a fever, but he has had a bad cough the last few days that we’re going to get checked out.
Luckily, mammaw was there with some medicine, some water, and she turned the TV on to distract him, which all added up to him feeling better in no time.
And I suppose that’s what great grandmas are for.
