How to Help L.A.
/Our hearts are absolutely breaking for those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles that have caused unimaginable devastation, resulting in the loss of lives, homes, and critical infrastructure. As of today, over 26,000 acres have burned, with more than 10,000 structures destroyed and approximately 150,000 residents under mandatory evacuation orders.
In these challenging times, it's crucial for communities near and far to come together and support those affected. Here are several reputable organizations actively involved in relief efforts, where your contributions can make a significant impact:
American Red Cross – Wildfire Relief: Provides emergency shelter, food, and health services to those in need. Donations support disaster relief efforts across the affected areas.
Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation: Supplies firefighters with essential equipment, including fire shelters, hand tools, and hydration packs, to enhance their safety and effectiveness on the front lines.
California Community Foundation's Wildfire Recovery Fund: Focuses on both immediate relief and long-term recovery, assisting with rebuilding homes, providing mental health services, and supporting those who have lost livelihoods.
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank: Distributes food to individuals and families affected by the wildfires, ensuring that no one goes hungry during this crisis.
Baby2Baby: Delivers essential items like diapers, clothing, and basic necessities to children impacted by the wildfires, helping families meet their immediate needs.
SPCA LA’s Disaster Animal Response Team: Assists in rescuing and caring for animals displaced by the fires, ensuring that pets and wildlife receive necessary care and shelter.
Lastly, Joanna Goddard of Cup of Jo shared a document that is a great resource “made by survivors of the devastating Marshall Fire, and offers advice for both people affected by the fires and those who want to help.”
Before donating, it's best to verify the current needs and donation guidelines of these organizations through their official websites or socials. Your support, whether through donating money, volunteering, or spreading awareness, plays such an important role in helping the recovery and rebuilding of communities devastated by these wildfires.
We are sending you so much love.
