It's Finally Starting to Feel (and Look) Like Fall
Here in Tennessee, we’re usually a little late on the cold weather and early on the hot weather. But finally, after months of daydreaming about pumpkin candles and big, chunky sweaters, fall has finally arrived in our small, southern town.
We’ve been enjoying walks with the kids in this weather lately and they’ve been loving walking through the leaves and seeing all the pretty oranges, reds, and yellows. It’s fun to experience a new season with them, a cooler season, if you will, because we started fostering them in the very middle of summer and as y’all know, this summer was horribly hot. It was over 90 degrees every single day. When it’s that hot, you don’t even want to go outside unless you’re near a pool, so though it sounds small and insignificant, being able to spend time with them walking around and actually enjoying the weather is a whole new & exciting thing for us.
There have been morning and afternoon walks around the neighborhood…
…and evening walks when the sun starts to set (so much earlier!) and the leaves are an entirely different shade of orange.
Even the drive home in the morning from dropping the oldest kiddo off at school is pretty, and with the windows cracked and the sun shining, suddenly the little bit of traffic that we have in town is a lot more manageable.
What is it about fall that feels so warm, safe, and comforting? Is it the cooler weather? Or maybe because the holidays are approaching? This time of year is so beautiful in Tennessee that we wished it lasted a little longer (it’s only this pretty for about a week or two). But we make the most of it around here! We’ve had the fire going almost every night, which is something we’ve been looking forward to for months. The first fire of the season is always such a special night because it’s when everything officially starts to feel like it’s changing.
Do you love fall as much as we do? We think the word ‘autumn’ sounds so much more charming, but we always end up saying fall out of habit. We hope your fall/autumn is everything you hoped for and more, friend.
