Five TV Shows We Can't Get Enough Of
What are you watching these days?
We’ve been having a cold front the last few weeks which inevitably equals more cozy time in front of the fire or on the couch watching TV. Lately, it’s been the latter (with two little dogs and a cat piled on top of us). What is it about piles of blankets, pillows, and animals that make everything seem right, just, and fair in the world?
Netflix seems to always know what we want and need at the moment and like a trusty little furry friend, they never stop coming through for us. Whether it’s a fascinating documentary or a thrilling series, we always seem to find something worth watching (even if it sometimes takes us scrolling forever to finally find it). Below are the shows that we’ve been loving lately- have you seen any of them?
The Umbrella Academy This is one of those fun, sci-fi, superhero shows with a big heart and interesting, layered characters. It’s about 7 adopted children who grow up in a dysfunctional (to say the least) family and the effects their childhood had on their lives as they turn 30. It also doesn’t hurt that they live in a gorgeous mansion in the middle of the city, which provides plenty of eye candy for those who love beautiful set designs (raising all four hands here).
One Strange Rock From Darren Aronofsky and hosted by Will Smith, this documentary originally aired on National Geographic. It explores our world through a unique lens (the first episode’s explanation of how much goes into us just taking one breath of air is so fascinating) and, while it may seem like your standard, run of the mill planet earth documentary at first, this show has a captivating voice that pulls you in and before you know it, you’ve binged watched the entire series. Did we mention Will Smith hosts it? Oh, we did?
Sex Education Out of all of the shows we’re loving lately, this is the one we can’t wait for season 2 of the most. It’s SO GOOD. The performances (Gillian Anderson is everything), the plot lines, love stories (LGBTQ representation!). All of it is deliciously addictive and if you haven’t seen it for whatever reason, binge immediately. Immediately we say!
You If for some reason you’re one of the only people left that hasn’t seen this insane show, this is one you should definitely check out ASAP. It’s ridiculous. It’s uncomfortable. It’s thrilling. It’s very now. It will make you think about how you look up people online from this point on (are you a stalker and you didn’t even know it?) and make you second guess every online interaction you’ve ever had. Joe Goldberg is a fascinating character- charming, handsome, and deadly. What more could you ask for?
The 2000s We had been waiting for this documentary to be on one of the streaming platforms since we missed the initial airing on CNN last year, so as soon as it came on Netflix we binged it as fast as we could. It’s like taking a trip down memory lane and revisiting all of the times you forgot about and, maybe the best part, the ones you didn’t. They discuss the shows and music and fads and trends and politics (including the campaign and election of Obama) of the 2000s decade with commentary from people like Tom Hanks (who produced the show), Edie Falco, and Jim Parsons, it’s a fun and informative series about what life was like more than a decade ago.
