Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

An Update on Life Since the Kiddos Left

An Update on Life Since the Kiddos Left

Today marks exactly two weeks since the kids went to live with a family member of theirs, so let’s take a look at what life’s been like the last few weeks since they’ve been gone.

How are we feeling? For the most part, okay. The first few days after the left were, in short, rough AF. We shared a bit about that experience over on Instagram, but there was a lot more we didn’t share, like the random spurts of cryfests we had and how every time we saw a photo of a video of them that we took on our phones, there would be even more crying, haha. We tell you this not because we want your pity, but as a heads-up that fostering comes with a ton of emotions and ups and downs, and this is one of them (at least for us).

Besides the fur babies playing, the house is pretty quiet again. For the first few days after the kids left, it was almost too quiet, so we’ve been adjusting to silence and stillness of the house again.

The last week or so we’ve been in such a better place. We’ve kept busy by focusing on our business, getting back to working out and eating better (seriously, does anyone else with kids find it hard to eat healthy, at least at first?), and working on our flip house. Speaking of, we are SO CLOSE to getting it finished! We spent the last week finishing up the hall bathroom and we. are. in. love:

PJ added the wainscoting and we painted it White Dove by Benjamin Moore, and we painted the top of the wall Hale Navy, also by BM. We never do moody colors like navy (we actually never use “cool” colors like blue or gray in our homes, and Haley Navy is a mixture of both), so it’s kind of exciting for us to see a different color like that up on the wall. It’s inspiring us to paint some rooms in our house in that color family!

We’ve been enjoying our mornings the last few days, too. One of the things that is absolutely not negotiable for us (especially since working from home and making our own schedules) are our mornings. We love long, slow, relaxing mornings….

…where maybe we’ll light a candle and curl up on the couch to respond to emails, comments, messages, etc…

…or sit at the kitchen island with our coffee and watch the morning news while planning out our day or writing in this blog. :)

We’ve been in contact with the kiddos’ family member that they’re living with for now and we may have plans to see the kids again soon. They’re a really, really sweet family and we’ve offered to babysit whenever they need us to, and they may just take us up on our offer soon (!).

Someone who is enjoying the peace and quiet again: Alyster- who has been loving having free roam of the entire house again without baby gates and closed doors keeping him out of places he wasn’t supposed to be.

So that’s what life has been like the last two weeks since they left, and we’re slowly getting back to our normal routine. It feels weird without them here, but it also feels like it always has the last nine years when it was just us, our dogs and, as of last year, our cat.

Hope the last few weeks have been treating you well, too. xx
