An Update on Dry January Two Weeks In
A quick check in!
It’s been just over two weeks since I stopped drinking for Dry January and I feel fantastic. I realize 30 days is not a very long time to go without drinking, but I haven’t really even felt the want or desire to drink yet. Well, that was up until last night.
It had been a very long day and the kids were yelling at each other and it was starting to get late and I hadn’t started dinner yet, and I told PJ how “I would love a glass of wine right now” as I was starting to make dinner. But that feeling quickly passed as my attention turned to making sure the chicken in the oven came out crispy and the mashed potatoes had enough garlic in them.
Some positives I’ve noticed so far since I stopped drinking:
More energy during the day. I used to wake up kind of sluggish, sometimes feeling like I didn’t get enough sleep the night before, and that would be only after 1 or 2 glasses of wine. Now though, I don’t feel as tired in the morning or throughout the day.
Less bloated. My face looks and feels less bloated. I know alcohol causes people to bloat and, even though I didn’t drink a ton before, I can definitely tell a difference now that I’ve stopped for the time being.
I’m intaking less calories. On my seemingly never ending quest to be healthier (maybe more on that later?), this is a big plus for me personally, since alcohol is filled with empty calories anyway.
So all in all I feel great so far and I’m looking forward to the next two weeks of not drinking. Who knows? Maybe this will inspire me for the rest of the year to cut back on drinking during the week and reserve that only for the weekends.
Hope you’re doing well if you’re doing Dry January, too!! xoxo
