The Fall Apple Festival
Every October, our whole town comes together and meets downtown at the Apple Festival. It’s like something straight out of Gilmore Girls. Our little downtown area becomes Stars Hollow and it’s a warm, familiar feeling of community when it happens.
There were booths with apple-themed items like shampoo and soaps, and little games set up, and they even had a petting zoo. The kids begged to go but I reminded them that we have an actual petting zoo at our farm, with more animals than were at this one (but really I just didn’t feel like going since it was nearing the end of our time at the festival and we were ready to go, haha). They didn’t quite like my response.
Matt and Beau came over since they were in town and we all walked a few blocks over to the festival, ooo-ing and ahhhh-ing at the rich colors of the leaves the whole time. We’re not quite in peak fall foliage yet, but it’s good enough for me.
At the festival, the kids ate snow cones and I had a funnel cake that I immediately regretted getting since it was so sweet and much too big than I originally thought. Luckily, Matt helped me finish it. We walked around for a bit and saw a couple of familiar faces before calling it a day and walking around downtown to admire the big, old houses in all their orange and yellow fall-draped glory.
Our town isn’t perfect, but it’s little things like this that remind me how grateful I am that we live in this little corner of the world. Fall is our favorite time of the year, and a lot of that has to do with fall events like this (along with going to apple orchards, playing at our farm, baking, doing a campfire, painting pumpkins).
Happy fall, y’all! xo
