Happy Birthday, Mom!
/Yesterday was my mom’s birthday, and last night we all got together at home and celebrated her and the fact that we get to spend another year with her in our lives. I feel so fortunate to be able to call her my mom, and that our kids get to call her their Sitto.
As for the menu, it was steak and crab legs (her favorite) and I made garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. We all chipped in and brought different thing here and there, and spent the whole night bumping into each other in the kitchen as we all cooked and prepared each dish.
For dessert we had this oh-so-delicious cheesecake that I had way too much of. I don’t even really like cheesecake that much, but I couldn’t help it! It was so good.
During dinner, we did something I always like to do on someone’s birthday, if they’re up for it: we went around the table and each said our favorite thing about the birthday girl. It doesn’t have to be long or even super deep (though last night, they got pretty deep and emotional), it just has to be something true and from the heart. I almost started crying at a few of them, especially PJ’s. Hearing him talk about my mom always has me on the verge of tears.
After dinner we tucked the kids into bed and all just lounged in the living room. I am loving all this family time we’re having lately. It’s so rare that we get to spend very much time together as adult siblings, but this year, it’s been just about every week.
If you’re reading this, happy birthday, mom!!!! We love you more than you’ll ever know.
