Sydney's 30th Birthday

Friday night, we got PJ’s mom to watch the kids for a few hours while we drove to my brother’s house in Chattanooga to celebrate my younger sister Sydney’s 30TH BIRTHDAY! It feels beyond strange to type those words. In my mind, she’s still somewhere around 23 or 24. Why is it always like that with younger siblings? And I don’t mean she acts younger, it’s just in my head she’s perpetually so much younger than me, but 30 doesn’t sound that much younger than I am. I think I’m projecting.

She requested beef stroganoff for dinner, and her wife’s mom ended up making it and it was hands down the best we’ve ever had. All night that’s all anyone kept talking about was how good the damn beef stroganoff was. I will be dreaming about it until I can (hopefully) have it again.

Her mom also surprised everyone and made homemade cupcakes! How sweet is that?

We all pitched in to make Friday night happen, and my contribution was making the salad dressing. We listened to the best playlist for a dinner party while we heated up dinner and mingled around the kitchen island. My mom wasn’t able to come since she’s still in the rehab facility and she was greatly missed (as was my older sister who lives in Georgia!).

It was such a chill, low key kind of night, which is exactly how Sydney wanted it. Nothing flashy or over the top, just yummy food and great company, and on your 30th birthday, can you really ask for anything more than that?

There was also ice cream cake at the request of the birthday girl. It was so much fun celebrating her and I found myself getting emotional at the fact that all of us siblings are officially out of our 20’s now.

After dinner, we made our way down to my brother’s dock to go for an evening boat ride. Isn’t his backyard so pretty? He works so hard on it and you can tell.

It was a chilly night, especially with the wind blowing on the boat, so we all bundled up to stay as warm as we could. It didn’t help much.

My brother played 80’s and 90’s hits and we were all lip syncing to Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”.

It turned out to be the perfect night for an evening boat ride.

Happy birthday, Sydney!!! We love you so much, and are so proud of the woman you are. You make all of our lives better just by being you.

PS: We got to see my mom at the rehab facility and she will be able to be released in a few days!!!
