The Solar Eclipse!
/Did you watch the solar eclipse this afternoon? The kids got out of school early for the occasion, so we drove out to the farm to watch it. We were scrambling yesterday to get glasses, going to three different places before finding a man selling them on the side of the road! Can you imagine?
We weren’t in the direct path, so the farm just kind of looked like it was about to rain for an hour. The weird part was, it was still very clearly sunny, but dark at the same time, which I guess is the whole point of a solar eclipse. Still, it wasn’t as mind boggling as I think I thought it would be, but I know other parts of the country got a much better view of it than we did.
PJ went out and laid on the grass to look up as it came, and the kids and I joined. I love how he makes moments like these extra special. I was just going to watch from the front porch.
As the eclipse was reaching totality, the inside of Holiday House became dark, but the sunlight was still pouring through the windows. It doesn’t show up as well on camera but in person it was really, really cool (and kind of eerie).
The next one isn’t until 2044, so we’ll have to wait another 20 years! Maybe we’ll go to one of the hot spots for that one?
