A Lovely Lunch at Taylor’s
We went to see my mom at her inpatient rehabilitation facility today, since she broke her hip a week ago, and afterwards, my brother invited us over to his house for lunch!
As we were about to leave the facility, my brother texted me and says, “It’s all ready.” And I don’t know about you, but having someone else make lunch for you might just be the best feeling ever. After a dreary day when the rain just wouldn’t let up, and visiting my mom and seeing her in a wheelchair (for the time being(, I couldn’t think of anything else I would rather do than be around family for an afternoon.
Taylor had it all laid out on the table when we got there, and walking in the door and smelling the aroma of chicken and potatoes was intoxicating. I realized then how hungry I was, and I felt an overwhelming sense of safety and comfort knowing that everything was taken care of. Little acts of love, like making lunch for your brother, go such a long way.
He made a Mediterranean-style lunch with marinated chicken on pita bread with tzatziki sauce and a delicious side dish of wedged potatoes. And for dessert, homemade chocolate chip cookies that might have been the best I’ve ever had. He took care of everything and it was such a nice little break for two hours to sit and eat with my brother and his wife.
After lunch, we made our way to the living room and lounged while we talked about the last few weeks and our plans for the future. Taylor told me about his new boat he’s making adjustments to, how things are at work, and my younger sister’s birthday party this weekend. Basically, just little everyday life stuff that we don’t get to talk about person as much these days.
Doing life with your siblings as adult is such a sweet gift, don’t you think?
