Mail Call: Books and Books and Books

We went to the PO Box the other day, after not checking it for a few weeks due to traveling, and our hearts pretty much exploded when we opened it. Aren’t books just about the best gifts one could receive?

Mail Call

You guys are always so thoughtful in what you send our way.

We received the most beautiful book from Daniel (who has sent us some of the sweetest things in the mail before) called To Be a Gay Man by British singer Will Young. It looks so good! I’ve been looking for a new book to read (currently listening to the audiobook of The Dutch House) and I can’t wait to crack this one open and dive in. And how cool that it’s signed by the author?!

Daniel is from the U.K. and we always get so excited every time we receive a package from him because we never know what to expect except that it’s going to be something unique and special. He also let us know that Will Young has a new song out and that it’s very good. The name of the song? “Daniel”.

Daniel, thank you SO much, as always, for being so kind and sending the most precious gifts. We’re so grateful for you, friend!!

We also received a package with some sweet gifts for the kiddos from John and Bob! They sent a pink octopus for sis (so cute), saying it is very soft with “a smily face BUT if you turn it inside out it has a sad face. We immediately thought sis might like this just to show you what kind of mood she is in for the day (or the minute lol, lol). It is small and cuddly and easy for her to carry around. We just thought it was so cute.”

Also included in the package was a dinosaur soap lab for the boys, which, everything about that sentence appeals to them. They LOVE experiments (especially older bother) and anything dinosaur related, of course, so this is right up their alley. John & Bob warned it would be messy, but how fun does it look?! Thank you SO much, y’all!

Thank you to everyone who sends our family sweet packages!! We feel the love from you all the way in our little corner of the world, and are forever grateful for you. xoxo

Mail Call

I just got back from the PO Box ad we received the sweetest package ever!!

Seth sent us a box filled with so many thoughtful gifts, like a beautiful drawing he did himself (!) of model Yoni Baker, a sweet children’s book for the kids called “Sir Simon” by a local author in Canada, and a few mugs (because he remembered I mentioned I want to start collecting pottery-type coffee mugs!!) that were handmade by a friend of his who runs her own business (Tiny Cat Pottery). How sweet is that?? There were two mugs (mine had a T on it), but one of them didn’t make it to us alive, and arrived in about a hundred pieces :(.

And in the accompanying letter, Seth shared with us a bit about himself:

“Towards the end of 2019, I confided in my church that I was gay and told them I was dating a man. I don’t know that I was expecting a warm response, but their reaction certainly felt cold. They told me I could either break up with my boyfriend or I would no longer be welcome there. And so I made my decision and they kicked me out. That was a hard time to walk through.

There’s never been any doubt for me that being gay is beautiful, natural, and something to be proud of. The boy my church told me to stop dating is now my fiancé, and I can’t wait to one day soon call him my husband.”

Oh Seth. Thank you so much for sharing a part of your story with us, and of course for the wonderful care package. I know we say it often, but I believe it can’t be overstated enough: we are so grateful for this beautiful, strong community of caring individuals. You don’t know what it means to the both of us (and the kids!) to have you here with us. Thank you for sending our family so much love and support over the years.

And again, thank YOU, Seth!!! xoxoxo

Thank you, Ron, SO much for the sweet package!!! We absolutely love introducing the kiddos to new books (they always enjoy reading a little before bed), especially ones that are inclusive and diverse as these are! Also, loving the fun and colorful mugs showing a gay family. Items like these are what normalize LGBTQ+ families and we couldn’t be more grateful for you, Ron, for sending them to ours.

Happy Wednesday, friends! xo
