Simplifying Our Life
/One of our Words of the Year for the past several years has been “simplify”. We are perpetually attempting to simplify our life to make it easier for our entire family. Sometimes that looks like getting rid of our Land Cruiser so that we don’t have four cars, and sometimes it looks like taking 30 minutes every week to clean our house from top to bottom. It can take the form of many things, and today, it was selling one of the dryers we have in our storage building at the farm!
PJ is a collector of…things. It could be anything, really. You name it, we probably have it stored somewhere. So when our washing machine stopped working a few years back, we got rid of it and put the matching dryer (that was perfectly fine) in storage. Well, wouldn’t you know that a friend of ours needed a dryer and we had one (or three) sitting around waiting for someone to claim it. And today, we drove out to the farm and sold the dryer to him, which means one less thing taking up space in our storage building.
We also took photos of a few other items in there that we’ll be listing for sale soon. It feels like we’re finally simplifying our life one item at a time, and even though separately they don’t feel like much, together, they all add up to a lot of things that will make a big difference when they’re gone.
I think it’s easy to accumulate stuff, and a lot of times it comes in handy when we’re renovating a house and need a washer and dryer or we’re able to use some of that leftover tile from another job that we’ve been keeping in our building. But after years of gathering things, it feels good to finally let them go and just simplify.
Please look at PJ with Tiny Buddy, our smallest chicken that Riah appropriately named.
The only downside of today? All the gnats at the farm. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day, which always means a ton of gnats this time of year that wouldn’t stop flying in my ears and my eyes. Yuck.
