An Evening with Friends
Last night we walked, along with a few friends, to one of our favorite local restaurants downtown for dinner. It came together very last minute, but everyone showed up and it was the perfect mix of new + old friends.
In our adult lives, it feels like we don’t have many close friends, nor does it feel like we have the time to hang out with friends in general with all of the things we’re juggling. Still, Wednesday nights are our free nights since the kids are at church with their aunt, so we decided to round up our small group of friends we love, but who haven’t met each other just yet. And it was the cutest little night!
I looked around the restaurant at all of them, so different in backgrounds and beliefs but all brought together at one table, and I realized then how grateful I was for this group of people and what they all bring to it. The loud and eccentric one, the one we’ve known since childhood, the one with the dry sense of humor that makes us all laugh, the one that is well-read and informed, and the new one that shares so much in common with PJ.
For an evening, you would have thought we’d known each other forever and were just catching up over drinks and garlicky food.
These are the types of friends I used to dream about having at the stage in life. I am so grateful for them.
