Hey you

Welcome to the blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses, all through the lens of Keep & Delete, where we share the best (Keep) and worst (Delete) part of every day. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

The Three Biggest Little Helpers

The Three Biggest Little Helpers

Keep: We had friends over for dinner last night and we cooked while they brought apps, drinks and desserts for the evening. Beforehand, though, prep had to be done, and lately the kids have really enjoyed helping out in the kitchen, so much so that they request to pitch in before we even ask them to. Such was the case last night. At one point, they were all huddled around the island peeling potatoes, laughing and seeing who could peel the most in the shortest amount of time. My hope is for them to carry this love of helping/cooking in the kitchen forever, and I can’t wait for the day when they make us dinner.

I was chopping garlic and PJ busted out our fall decorations while jazz music played in the background. It was my perfect kind of afternoon, the kind of dream about all year, where we’re all home and spending time together doing what we love. Yes, it’s still 90 degrees outside, but since school is officially back in session, we’re going straight into fall mode at the McKay house and I don’t want to hear another word about it!

Delete: Since we got the final inspection approval on Wednesday for Holiday House, I assumed we would spend the week moving in, starting yesterday. However, when we got out to the farm, PJ didn’t feel like doing much of anything anymore after searching for his lost wallet all day. He was panicked, thinking it was gone and someone stole it since he had looked everywhere for it to no avail. Gone was his energy and his want to do anything productive, so I mopped the living room floor in preparation to move furniture in and we went home, vowing to pick back up where we left off another day. Maybe that day will be today? We’ve waited four years for this, what’s one more day?
