Wanted to share some news and a big foster care update! In case you missed yesterday’s YouTube video, where we discuss what our plans are as far as adopting the kiddos and where we’re at in our foster care journey, I’m linking it here for you!
It’s been a long, emotional road for everyone involved, and we’re ready to finally move on to the next steps in our journey. We can’t thank you enough for all the love and support you’ve sent our family over the years. From the messages to the emails to the snail mail (my favorite), you have been with us every step of the way from the very beginning of us being foster parents.
We’re excited for this next chapter!!!
It’s a question we get often, as people get glimpses here and there of the kiddos calling us certain names in our YouTube videos or on Instagram stories. So, today I thought I would dive into the names they use for us and why.
For the last six months or so, the kids have called PJ and I…
Read MoreLittle brother, our middle kiddo, is 4 years old today! It’s hard to believe when I sit down and think about it, because he was only 2 1/2 when he and his brother and sister came to live with us. I can’t stress enough how true the cliche saying of “they grow up so fast” is. It’s something I didn’t understand until we became parents, but man is it real.
We’ve gone through what raising a 4 year old boy was like before (his older brother was 4 when they came to live with us, now 5 1/2), but it will be so fun to experience little brother as a 4 year old- to see the similarities and differences he shares with his brother at this age. I love how very different they are from each other and often wonder what traits they’ll carry with them into adulthood. At the same time…why can’t they stay these ages forever?
We’re so beyond grateful for this precious little boy and all the joy, laughter, and love he’s brought to our lives. We love him more than he’ll ever know.
After months of discussing it and then working to get him a spot, our oldest kiddo is starting kindergarten next week on his iPad at home. And we couldn’t be more grateful.
Read MoreAs a foster parent, you only have to do paperwork every so often (right now we’re working on our annual license renewal), but when you do, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. There’s a lot, and it takes a while. But don’t all worth-while things take time?
PS: you can see the kiddos’ “paperwork” (their two drawing pads) right next to ours 😂.
xo
Lately, we’ve been letting the boys pick out their own clothes and they’ve been so into it, especially older brother. The sense of pride and independence they feel when choosing what to wear, and seeing the smiles on their faces when they pick something they love, far outweighs any kind of fashion faux pas they may be committing (like pairing the green dinosaur shirt and the teal flower shorts).
Older brother likes to switch out his clothes multiple times a day (we’re reminding him he can’t keep doing that!), and this was his black on black ensemble he picked out for our walk that evening. He kept telling us how handsome and cute he looked in it and our hearts melted a little every time he said it. We love how much he loves himself and hope he never loses that.
At an age when most decisions and choices are made for them, it feels right to let them have this one for themselves. Happy Monday, friends xx.
A couple of days ago, a friend texted us an article that posed an interesting question…
Read MoreWe’ve been through it once with the middle kiddo, and now it’s time for baby girl’s chance to shine. And by shine, we mean she is, most definitely and without a doubt, in the midst of going through the terrible twos.
Read MoreEvery night, without fail, as soon as we start cooking, the kids migrate to the kitchen, like there’s a secret siren alerting them to make their way to the center of the house as soon as we turn on the stove.
Read MoreAfter taking the foster care courses and having our first placement, we’ve realized more than ever the need for this amazing (and sometimes flawed) system. But how can we all help these kiddos more? What can we do that will make a difference? We asked our case worker, Rachel, what she thinks the biggest needs are for the foster care system and how we can all help, and here are her seven suggestions:
Read MoreA few weeks ago, we asked you over on Instagram what questions you had regarding foster care, and today we’re answering as many as we can. You sent a lot (which is amazing btw! we love how curious you are about the system!) so be on the lookout for more of these types of posts in the near future. Let’s get right to it…
